The Best Facial In Miami Requires a Blade. And a Romanian.

June 28th, 2012

{All THAT was taken off my mug. Read on…}

Yesterday, I experienced the BEST FACIAL OF MY LIFE and it required a surgical blade. No, that’s not a typo. Where? At Andrea Trowers Dermatology. By whom? Aesthetician/Mad Scientist/Romanian Goddess Nena Valyi.

The latest in facials is called derma planing where a surgical blade is held to the skin at a 45-degree angle and stroked along the skin, just like shaving. Nena was kind enough to let me photograph all the “peach fuzz” (um, that looks like a full-on BEARD) and dead skin cells she shaved off in the pic above. HOW AWESOME IS THAT? Or gross. Depends on which way you look at it. But I think it’s pretty brilliant. And my friend who receives this facial on the reg reports the hair does not grow back any thicker or darker — just the same.

Anyhoo, book the Micro Peel Facial which includes derma planing, microdermabrasion, lactic peel, deep extractions, dry ice application and moisturizer. The end result? Silky smooth skin as soft as a baby’s bum. I’m addicted. You will be too.

Andrea Trowers Dermatology, 1801 N.E. 123 Street, Suite 417, North Miami; (305) 899-2511; My story here.

It’s a Sweats and Tee Kinda Day

June 27th, 2012

{Monrow sweats, Lauren Moshi tank, Nike kicks, Tory Burch bag}

The gnarly weather outside calls for comfy sweats, tees and kicks (because wet feet are a pet peeve of mine) and tubs of Ben & Jerry’s and Housewife marathons. If you don’t own a pair of Monrow pants, then you MUST buy a pair because the material they’re made from is softer than butta. Consider yourself warned: Once you slip into a pair of Monrows, you may never take them off and become one of those people who lives and breathes in sweat pants, and that is so no bueno. Because nothing says I’VE GIVEN UP ON LIFE more than a woman wearing sweats every day. Remember this sage nugget of advice, kids.

Forget a Ring — Put a Monogram On It

June 26th, 2012

{Inside this so-cute-I-don’t-want-to-ruin-it-packaging is my latest jewelry purchase}

{A Jordann Jewelry Magnolia Enamel Charm}

A wise woman — okay Reese Witherspoon — once said, “My sheets are monogrammed, so is my silverware and pretty much everything else I own. My rule is, if it is not moving, monogram it.” And she is so right. Here is my latest jewelry purchase in the shape of a gorgeous magnolia flower with an MTA monogram, natch.

I bought it here after a Miami Herald colleague sent me a press release stating Gabrielle Union sports one in red as a lucky charm in honor of her man, Dwyane Wade. Being the psychotic shopaholic I am, I immediately ordered one (there are so many cute colors to choose from, too!)  thinking the company’s website would crash and burn once The Miami Heat won the NBA championship due to an apocalyptic amount of purchase orders from freaks (like me) looking for a good talisman that actually works. I mean, doesn’t everyone want good juju around their neck? Of course.

{This charm, along with Wade, Lebron, Bosh and the rest of the gang, is the reason Miami won the NBA finals}
